The User Interface is stylish and really makes sense in the universe, I’d describe the U.I as ‘diegetically implemented’ that’s basically a fancy way of saying it actually exists in the game world its simply a tool that someone in Issac’s position would use and its presented in a way that never pulls the player out of the moment. The slow movement speed and rather lumbering sprinting provides a level of tension to every enemy encounter. Upon landing, you discover madness, insanity and a malevolent alien infestation of deformed human crewmembers ‘now walking corpses’ driven to end your life in the most horrific and nightmare-inducing ways possible. For a little context, I’ll give you a rundown of the Games premise, Set in the far Future Issac Clark an engineer sent to repair a legendary planet cracking mining vessel know as the Ishimura having received a distress call from the said ship. In case you can’t tell i really like the world of Dead Space from the Gameplay, Art Direction, User interface and how they all blend together to immerse you in the game. The trailer takes the hopeful dreams of exploration into the unknown void of space and turns it on its head, prompting me to look up at the skies with dread imagining them as cold, unforgiving, lifeless and riddled with terrors not meant to be viewed by human eyes. Dead Space however just blew my mind the Trailer’s themes of loneliness, Madness and uncensored violence just drew me in, that coupled with the amazingly twisted remix of the nursery rhyme ‘Twinkle Twinkle little star’ had me at the edge of my seat no longer shying away from such horrifying imagery and instead relishing in the aesthetic of the game. Prior to viewing the trailer, I had a strong aversion to horror games not wanting to put myself through the stress of playing one as i found them just too scary. I remember watching the first trailer for Dead Space on youtube back in 2008, It was the first time I’d ever been so enthraled by a horror game’s marketing and it genuinely intrigued me pulling me into its demented world and holding me there.
